A native Oregonian, Delores moved to Florence
about three years ago. Having been raised on the Oregon coast, her
paintings reflect the influence of sea and woods. She was also influenced
by the Olympic Mountains in Sequim, WA, where she and her husband
lived after retirement. While she has done many types of work, including
designing wine labels and work for tasting rooms, etc., the love
of nature overshadows all else. Hobbies of gardening, fishing, and
any other reason to be outdoors have given her an added plus for
her type of work.
She taught classes for several years at Umpqua Community College
in Roseburg, Oregon, and owned and operated a studio where she
taught, as did other instructors. While living in Sequim, WA,
she also taught at Peninsula College, as well as private classes.
The responsibilities of prepping for her students pushed her to
study and pursue her own art, which she recognizes as a constant
learning and an appreciation process. While having no formal education
in art, she has had the privilege of knowing and painting with
well known artists. The experience and challenge of teaching has
given her a constant reason to study and challenge herself.
Starting in pastels, Delores change to oils and acrylics, oils
remaining her favorite. Her goal is to achieve realism, but to
go beyond mere surface representation. For Delores, painting is
a very personal form of expression which can be shared with others.
It goes beyond painting a canvas just to match a bedspread or
davenport, and hopefully establish a sense of mystery and intimacy.
